A Mental Vaction...

Today was just one of those days to relax and gear up for what is to come in the next 2 days :)

Last night, my Mom and I came down to the cities after a training session. The training session was to be a support group facilitator! My mom and I are now both certified Alzheimer's Association Support Group Facilitators :) It is exciting because my Mom and I have big plans for a support group right in my hometown of Nisswa. I'm hoping that we will be ready to start meeting within the next few months!

This morning we got up early to go to the King Tut Exhibit at the Science Museum. The Museum was packed was little kids!! But it was fun to distract my mind for a bit. After my mom and I headed over to Edina to visit Bessie's Boutique where we got some last minute pageant jewelry :)

I'm am getting so excited for tomorrow when I meet all of the contestants at orientation! There are 10 contestants in all, counting me, so it should be a really good and fun pageant!

I'm going to try and blog after orientation tomorrow, but bear with me if it doesn't happen :)

Love always,
Bailey

My send-off and gown showing party.

I am absolutely shocked that time has flown by so fast and it is already pageant week. 5 days until the pageant... Insane! It seems like just last week I was being crowned Miss North Metro Outstanding Teen, now I'm getting ready to compete for Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen!

For those who don't know, this is my 3rd time competing for this title. I have never felt more ready for anything in my entire life. I want this title and I have worked so hard for it. I love everything about the Miss America Organization and I would be so honored to be crowned Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen 2011.

Yesterday, I had my send-off and gown showing party. It was the most people I have ever had at a send-off! Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and support me. It means so much, and I hope you all understand how much of a blessing you are in my life!

The party itself was just pure fun! It was great catching up with friends and family. Their kind words got me so excited for this next week. I'm hoping to blog alot this week, so make sure to check back :)

Here are some photos! Enjoy :)

Time for a little catch up!

I am so sorry that I haven't blogged in a long time! I didn't realize how fast time was going by, so it's time for me to do a little catch up.

Firstly, yesterday was the Meeting of the Minds Dementia Conference at the River Centre in St. Paul. It was sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association and the Mayo Clinic. My family was asked to welcome everyone to the event and share our story about our journey through Alzheimer's disease. It was such an honor to be asked!! There were over 1300 people at this event, and although I was a little nervous, I knew that if I just spoke from my heart everything would come easily. I am so proud of my parents for getting up there and speaking the way they did. I could not imagine how hard it must have been for my Dad to admit in front of that many people that he has Alzheimer's. (You can long onto youtube.com to find our short intro)
I met so many incredible people that day. Yesterday was really an eye-opening event and emotional, but I feel that I came out a stronger and more passionate person. Many thanks to Barry Peterson and Mary Nell for making both my Mom and I realize so many things! You two are incredible!

Now, with Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen pageant just 13 days away, I am feeling so at ease. I know that I am completely ready for this title and I have given my heart and soul into preparing myself. I hope and pray that this is what's God's plan for me and I know that if it's meant to be it will happen. I know in my heart that I did everything I could possibly do to prepare and I want this so much!

To me, it's not just a crown and a sash; it stands for so much more than that. It stands for all of the hardwork and dedication one puts into making their dreams a reality. I fully believe everything I just said in the last 2 sentences; I'm not one to be hypocritical. Take our Miss Minnesota 2010, Kathryn. She worked for many years to be Miss Minnesota, and when she finally won, it was like all of the hard work had boiled down to that moment when that crown was being pinned to her head, the sash was being placed over her body, she was being handed her flowers, and was taking her very first walk as Miss Minnesota 2010.

I know, with everything I have inside of me, that I am ready for the title as Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen 2011. I have never felt more ready for anything in my entire life. God... I am putting these next 13 days all in your hands!

With pure excitement,
Bailey

Timberwolves game and Sweeps pageant.

On Friday night, I attended the Timberwolves game at the Target Center. $6 of every ticket went to the MN-ND Alzheimer's Association! I'm not the biggest basketbal fan, but the game turned out really fun! It was Crunch, the mascot's, birthday. They had a big birthday party for him and 9 or 10 other mascots from all over MN and the US were there! I also got the watch Emily Kallis dance. Emily and I competed together at my very first pageant, Miss MN Outstanding Teen 2009. We became friends, and this summer she was crowned Miss Frazee. She is also on the Timberwolves dance team, so it was fun to get to see her dance.

The next day, was Sweeps pageant. For those who don't know, Sweeps is a pageant for any "Miss" contestant who has competed in a pageant in the Miss America system before. For every 4 girls, they add a title. They crowned 2 girls, Miss City of Lakes, Allison Lordbock and Miss West Metro, Samantha Phillipi! Congrats to both of them!! They are the last 2 girls to be added to the Miss MN Class of 2011. The next pageant in the Miss America system is MINE! Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen 2011 on April 2nd!! I cannot believe how fast it is coming up. I am beyond excited to see what lies ahead :) If you would like tickets to sit in my section, please send me an email by Monday (tomorrow) at bailey.wachholz@gmail.com Hope you can make it!

Prior to Sweeps, my Mom and I had dinner with Chris, Chelsea, and Corrina Swiggum. Corrina is going to be competing for MMOT this year too. She is Miss Scott County Outstanding Teen! It was great to catch up with them :)

I would also like to congradulate Emma Hilgart and Brittnany Tischmak. They also competed last night and did a beautiful job. Keep at it girls!! Love you both.

Also, please keep Lauren Johnson and her family in your prayers.

Always,
Bailey

Day 2 and 3 of Georgia!

The past 2 days have been crazy busy for me. I feels good to be in my hotel room relaxing :)

Yesterday, was day 2 of Georgia. It started out a little crazy... Long story short, we got the wrong paperwork and showed up an hour late to a session. Oops! We were forgiven though and our day kept going.  Mom and I were in meetings  until around 4pm yesterday. Then after there was a banquet, were I would represent the Brainerd Lakes Area Walk to End Alzheimer's! They asked me to walk in as the Brainerd representative. The Brainerd Walk recieved "Star" status, which basically means the national Alzheimer's Association is recognizing our growth and hard work. It was an honor to represent the Brainerd Lakes Area! Right when I walked into the banquet doors, I was blown away. The ballroom that it was held in was absolutely HUGE and it was so cool because they had spot lights, purple lights and decorations everywhere. Purple is the national Alzheimer's color.

Prior to our dinner, there was a special program. Highlights of this program included hearing Harry Johns, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer's Association. This was the first time I had ever heard him speak, and I was blown away. He spoke with no notes. He did not stand behind the podium, and not once did he stop or hesitate. You could just tell he was speaking from the heart! It was amazing.

President of the Alzheimer's Association.

After Harry's speech, there was a special announcement. The President of TJX Company (TJ Maxx and Marshalls) surprised all of us in the room by donating $1 million to the Alzheimer's Assocation!! It was an incredible thing to experience. The feeling in the room changed instantly, it brought us all closer together!

President of TJX

To add to all of the excitment, we had another guest speaker... David Hyde Pierce from Frasier! His grandpa passed away from Alzheimer's and his grandma passed away from caring for his grandpa. He has and will continue to do so many things with the Alzheimer's Association. I walked away inspired by the work he has done and the strides he has taken to support the cause.

So the end of day 2 came, and as I reflect back on that night, I can't believe it even happened. Not many people have had the opportunities that I have been presented with. When thinking of the 500 people here with me at this conference, I feel at ease. I have something in common with every single one of these people. We all have a passion for Alzheimer's and won't stop fighting until there is a cure!

So today is day 3 :) I can't believe I leave tomorrow. It has been one unbelievable journey. I wish it wouldn't end, but all things must end. I'm thankful for this journey, for everyone who made it possible, and for everyone I have met along the way. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Day 3 started out early, with breakfast at 7am. Then we had one big group session, that got my really excited for our Brainerd Walk!  Mom and I both got so many ideas. We share the Head Chair  position on the Walk committee, and I couldn't be more excited. There will be some really great things coming up in the next few months, so stay tuned :)

After the group session,we had breakout sessions, then lunch.  Mom and I decided we would do a little sight seeing :) First we headed to the CNN Center. Atlanta is home to many things, including the CNN TV Station! We took a tour and got a lot of background info on CNN and the building.

After CNN, we headed over to the Georgia Aquarium. Did you know it is the largest in the world? Yes! It was really great to see the huge diversity of animals that they have there.

After CNN and the Aquarium, we walked across the street to the Coca-Cola Museum. Not only is Atlanta home to CNN and the World's Largest Aquarium, but it is also the home of Coca-Cola! The museum was really interesting! We got to see how they to bottled the Coke and a lot of the history behind the Coke logo. At the end of the museum, they had different flavors of Coke products from all over the world! My personal favorite was Inca Cola from Peru and Peach Iced Tea from the UK :) There was one flavor called Beverly that tasted like baby asprin! It was gross!

I wish we could spend just one more day here in Georgia. 70 degrees and sunny feels amazing! Tomorrow I fly back (Saturday) and Minnesota is supposed to be hit with 10-15 inches of snow. Really? Is this what I get for being in nice weather for a week? Oh well! At least summer is almost here... Almost...
